Difference between A572 Gr.50 and A588 Gr.A High Strength Low Alloy Steel

A572 Gr.50 steel is high strength low alloy steel, offering a 50 KSI minimum Yield strength. A572 Gr.50 steel plate is typically used whenever a cost savings from a weight reduction can be gained. Bebon will supply ASTM A572-Gr50 plates up to 150mm thickness.

A588 Gr.A steel, similar to ASTM A572-Gr50, is also a high strength low alloy steel, but is a “Copper Bearing” steel offering approximately four times the corrosion resistance of structural carbon steel grade. This material has a minimum yield in the range of 42 KSI to 50 KSI depending upon thickness. ASTM A588 is an American material standard for hot Rolled steel plates for corrosive environment & high strength applications.
