Application of Martensitic Stainless Steel

Martensitic stainless steel is low carbon steel around the type 410 stainless steel(12% chromium and 0.12%carbon). Martensitic stainless can be hardened and strengthened by heat treatment. As for the martensitic grades, please check below.

Martensitic grades include Type 410, Type 410S, Type 414, Type 416, Type 420, Type 431 and Type 440. The martensitic grades are straight chromium steels containing no nickel.

Optimum corrosion resistance is attained in the heat treatment like hardened and tempered condition. Martensitic grades have been developed with nitrogen and nickel additions but with lower carbon levels than the traditional grades. Martensitic stainless steels have improved toughness, weldability and corrosion resistance. As for martensitic stainless steel application, martensitic grades are mainly used where hardness, strength and wear resistance required.
