What’s Austenitic Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is a group of iron-based metal containing at least 10% chromium. Stainless steel has three types by different crystal structure: austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel. Do you know austenitic stainless steel? What’s austenitic stainless steel?

Austenitic means a metallic, non-magnetic solid solution of carbon and iron that exists in steel above the critical temperature of about 723°C. The rate of cooling determines the relative proportions of these materials and therefore the mechanical properties of the steel such as hardness and tensile strength.
Austenitic stainless steel has kinds 200 series stainless steel and 300 series stainless steel. 200 series stainless steel are austenitic iron-chromium-nickel-manganese alloys. 300 series stainless steel are austenitic iron-chromium-nickel alloys.
Austenitic stainless steel can be tested by nondestructive testing using the dye penetrant inspection method but not the magnetic particle inspection method. Eddy-current testing may also be used. Austenitic stainless steel is the primary stainless steel used in aviation construction.
Bebon is professional austenitic stainless steel supplier. We can offer 200 series austenitic stainless steel and 300 series stainless steel. For austenitic stainless steel, please contact us.
