SUS 201: Stainless steel with both performance and cost-effectiveness
SUS 201 is a stainless steel grade specified in the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). From the perspective of material composition, it uses iron as the matrix, on which various alloy elements such as chromium, manganese, nickel, and nitrogen are added. Among them, chromium is the key to giving it basic corrosion resistance, while manganese and nitrogen help stabilize the austenite structure, allowing stainless steel to maintain good toughness and processing performance at room temperature and within a certain temperature range.
SUS 201 stainless steel has many characteristics. It has good toughness, which makes it less likely to break during processing and can withstand a certain degree of deformation without damage. It has good processing performance, whether it is through hot processing methods such as rolling and forging, or cold processing methods such as stamping and bending, it can be smoothly made into products of various shapes. At room temperature, SUS 201 stainless steel can maintain stable physical and chemical properties and has a certain degree of corrosion resistance. However, when the ambient temperature rises, or when it is in harsh conditions such as high humidity, strong acid and alkali, its corrosion resistance will be challenged to a certain extent, and it needs to be reasonably selected and protected according to the specific use scenario.
The advantage of this stainless steel is that it balances performance and cost well. On the one hand, its cost is relatively low, which is mainly due to the ratio of its alloy elements. Under the premise of ensuring certain performance, the use of expensive nickel elements is reduced. On the other hand, under normal conditions of use, it can meet the performance requirements of various application scenarios, whether it is strength, hardness or corrosion resistance, it can reach a more appropriate level, and the cost performance is very high.
SUS 201 stainless steel has a wide range of applications. In the food processing industry, although it is generally not used for key components that directly contact food, it is used in some storage containers and non-food contact parts of delivery pipelines due to its cost-effectiveness and basic corrosion resistance. In the field of home decoration and furniture manufacturing, it can be used to make table and chair frames, sofa armrests, decorative lines, etc., which can not only ensure the structural strength of furniture, but also achieve beautiful effects through surface treatment. In the manufacturing of small hardware products, such as locks, hinges, handles, etc., SUS 201 stainless steel has also become a common material for manufacturers due to its good processing performance and moderate cost.
