ASTM A240 304LN Stainless Steel Composition & Nitrogen‑Enhanced Properties
ASTM A240 304LN (UNS S30453) is a nitrogen‑enhanced, low‑carbon austenitic stainless steel grade under ASTM standards. With 18–20% chromium, 8–12% nickel, and added nitrogen, it provides higher yield strength, improved pitting resistance, and enhanced weld stability compared with 304L.
The grade maintains excellent corrosion resistance after welding and is suitable for pressure vessels, storage tanks, hygienic systems, food‑processing equipment, and low‑temperature applications. Its higher strength makes it ideal for structural components requiring both corrosion resistance and mechanical performance.
304LN is supplied as sheets, plates, strips, tubes, and bars. As a nitrogen‑strengthened version of 304L, it offers a superior balance of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance across chemical, pharmaceutical, architectural, and fluid‑handling industries.
