1.4306 Stainless Steel Composition & Low-Carbon Properties
1.4306 (X2CrNi19-11) is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel grade specified under EN 10028-7 and EN 10088-2. As a high-purity variant of the 304L family, it contains 18–20% chromium, 10–12% nickel, and a carbon content below 0.03%. The tighter chemical control enhances resistance to intergranular corrosion, especially in welded structures. Compared with 1.4307 (304L), 1.4306 offers higher nickel content and improved stability, making it suitable for applications requiring superior corrosion resistance, weld integrity, and surface cleanliness.
It performs well in food processing equipment, pharmaceutical systems, pressure vessels, and low-temperature environments. Its excellent formability supports deep drawing, bending, welding, and polishing operations. 1.4306 is supplied as cold-rolled sheets, hot-rolled plates, strips, tubes, and bars. It is widely used in tanks, heat exchangers, piping systems, hygienic equipment, and architectural components. Its low-carbon design minimizes carbide precipitation, ensuring long-term reliability in welded and mildly corrosive environments.
